Elbow Drummer Dazzles Students in Music Masterclass

Music students at Preston’s College were treated to an afternoon masterclass and Q&A session with former Elbow drummer, Richard Jupp.

The stickman showcased his 25 years’ experience of touring and making music with the Bury-formed band to an audience of young budding musicians.

Students got to perform one-on-one with Richard on drum kits positioned around the famous artist as well as hear tips and insights on how to forge a successful career in the music industry.

Mark Barlow, music tutor at Preston’s College, added: “It was such a privilege to have Richard come to the College and inspire our students. His skills as a drummer are phenomenal and he’s forged a successful career in a competitive industry.

“The music industry is notoriously difficult to break into yet its extra enrichment activities like these that show our students what can be achieved with passion and hard work. The sector contributes £billions to the UK economy each year and our learners go on to do amazing things with some touring the world with bestselling bands and artists.”

Richard, who runs his own drumming school, was introduced to the College through More Music, a music in education charity in Morecambe that delivers workshops, training, performances and festivals.
