MUMAGEDDON! And the Food Magician by Sonya Anise is a side-splittingly funny new book for children aged 7+ that tells the story of a talented young chocolatier with a passion for baking. Despite his magical gift in the kitchen, his vile stepmother bans him from cooking and sends him away to boarding school. In a quest for sweet revenge, he whips up the ultimate recipe. Though wildly humorous, this David-and-Goliath-inspired adventure ultimately becomes a heart-warming tale of compromise, acceptance, and unconditional love, as the boy and his stepmother learn to communicate and find common ground.
Perfect for fans of Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Jamie Smart, and Quentin Blake, MUMAGEDDON! is a laugh-out-loud rhyming story filled with irreverence and charm. While its silliness will delight children, its deeper message about pursuing your passions and speaking up for yourself will resonate with readers of all ages – even stepmothers!
Beautifully illustrated in vibrant full colour on every page, the book reflects the creativity of Sonya Anise, who spent years crafting a story that entertains while inspiring empathy and understanding.
Sonya explains:
“I always loved reading funny illustrated books to my daughter when she was growing up, including Dahl, Blake, Walliams, and others. Spending time with those books brought the two of us together. Humour is a brilliant way to get kids involved in a story – and ultimately that story can have a positive message as well as just being fun to read.”
As an artist and designer, Sonya divides her time between Britain and Spain. Born in Dublin to British parents, she studied art and design at Central Saint Martins and has travelled extensively, living in England, Ireland, Australia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Spain. Her nomadic lifestyle fuels her creative inspiration, as does her love for chocolate and cooking. She is currently based on a small Balearic island, working on her next book.
MUMAGEDDON! And the Food Magician is an ideal book for parents and children to read together or as a classroom favourite. It is available now from all major bookshops.
