Pendle Borough Council has paid tribute to Colne Market’s longest serving trader.
Michael Maybury passed away peacefully at home after a short illness.
Along with his wife, Nona, Michael had been trading as Michael’s Butchers & Farm Shop at Colne Market for 40 years.
Asjad Mahmood, leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Michael’s family at this sad time.
“Michael was a loyal, long-standing and well-known Colne Market trader, having served residents and visitors to the town for four decades.
“He has been described by fellow Colne Market traders and customers as ‘a people’s person’, well liked by all those who knew him and who will be sadly missed.”
Michael’s funeral will take place on Friday. The cortege will pass Colne Market at 10am on its way to St Thomas’ Church, Barrowford, for the funeral service, which those who want to pay their respects are invited to. This will be followed by a private burial.
