Vincent Kompany: Burnley boss hopes Nottingham Forest appeal resolved before season finale

Vincent Kompany hopes common sense prevails ahead of the season finale as Nottingham Forest await the outcome of their points deduction appeal.

Burnley are one of the clubs anxiously waiting to see if the Tricky Trees will have their four-point penalty overturned and they face Nuno Espirito’s side on the final day of the season.

Two points is all that separates the two clubs in the table but that could increase before the end of the season if the Midlands side are successful in their appeal that was heard last Wednesday.

Kompany and Burnley still have to face Newcastle and Tottenham before Gameweek 38 and lots could change in the standings before 19 May.

But the former Manchester City defender wants to avoid the final standings changing after the campaign is over.

He said: “Let’s hope common sense prevails and people figure out when to make a decision.

“Let’s be honest about this, it’s common sense – the last game of the season is Burnley v Nottingham Forest. It’s common sense, I don’t need to tell you that.

“This is the only thing I haven’t worried about. I haven’t taken this as a factor all season, so I am not going to start now.

“It is still the same mindset for me. It doesn’t play any part in what we are doing in the next game.”

The Clarets have a tough test against Newcastle on Saturday but will believe they can get a result at Turf Moor.

Every point is vital for last season’s Championship winners and Kompany wants his players to believe that they can create history.

He added: “I want every player in the team to believe that individually they can have a moment.

“[We have] three games, 90 or 95 minutes to play. Every minute offers an opportunity to have a moment that will remain in the club’s history.

“It is so rare in life that you have an opportunity to have a significant moment like this. These guys will have the opportunity in the next three games.

“It starts with the belief yourself that this can be your moment. We will need it spread across the group because we have got three games to cover.”
