Liverpool vs Burnley: Clarets need Premier League results, accepts Vincent Kompany

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany says results are an “issue” for the Clarets after a run of one win in 10 games in all competitions.

Last season’s Championship winners drew 2-2 with Fulham at Turf Moor on Saturday, recovering from two goals behind to earn a point through David Fofana’s goals in the 71st and 91st minutes.

Three of their last nine matches have ended all-square and three of their six defeats along the way have been by a single goal, but Burnley’s three wins in this season’s Premier League are two fewer than any of the teams above them – and they face one of the most difficult trips of the campaign when they visit leaders Liverpool on Saturday.

“I hope the lads believe that they can score goals and be a good team when they put their minds to it,” said Kompany.

“Some of the things we showed [against Fulham] are more of the things we have to show towards the end of the season.

“It’s really a result issue for us. In many games, we’ve shown the same signs as we did against Fulham, in terms of either finishing strongly or being in the game towards the end.

“It’s really a case of turning these moments into results. That’s maybe a positive step for this one [against Liverpool].”

Liverpool vs Burnley: Kompany sees “belief”

Liverpool suffered their first Premier League loss since September 30 with a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday and will start the game against Kompany’s side a point behind Manchester City if the holders win at home to Everton in the earlier match on Saturday.

Despite two of their victories this season coming on the road, Burnley have lost eight of their last 10 away matches in all competitions, including each of their last three.

“Belief is always there,” said Kompany, whose side host title contenders Arsenal a week later.

“We started the last Championship season having to gear up for it with all of our players gone.

“The starting ingredient of everything is always belief. That was there at the time, it’s there right now and it’s going to be there always.

“You need to have a good dose of hard work. The ingredients are there. It’s nothing about the basics.”
