Clique Energy supplies greener future to long-standing rope manufacturer

James Lever – a Bolton-based ropes and twines manufacturer – has made steps towards a future powered by renewable energy thanks to an installation of battery storage technology by Clique Energy.

Established in 2014 by Tom Cush (pictured front), Clique Energy specialises in helping businesses to reduce operational costs and lower their carbon footprint.

Maximising energy efficiency around the clock, the firm installs a range of technologies including advanced battery storage technology and solar panels for domestic and commercial projects.

James Lever has adapted to changing times before in its 167-year history. In the 1950’s, when demand for rope transmission power in Bolton’s industrial mills waned, the manufacturer started producing a more diverse range of products, including twines.  In 1953, the pioneering firm introduced the PVC clothes-line to the UK.

Today, the company has diversified into a vast range of rope and cord products, utilised domestically and commercially in various markets including craft, furnishings, and hi-tech temperature process components.

They also provide to other industries, supplying sash cords, pulley ropes, clothes and rotary lines, decorative craft twine and a range of cords and braids to UK, European and global customers. One of the companies within the group, Rope Source, created by members of the sixth generation of the Lever family, James and Robert, offers a more diverse range of online products.

Tom said: “The contrast between our futuristic technology and the manufacturing techniques that have lasted over three centuries at James Lever, make this project really stand out.  The battery storage installation gives them more control over their industrial energy usage, allowing electricity to be stored on-site on a constant basis.

“UK energy market prices are impacted by Geopolitics across the world, and with the events in the last 18 months, having certainty of supply cost is a key goal for all businesses. The technology we have installed at James Lever will allow them to monitor their energy consumption real time and maximise savings from solar power. The smart battery storage will offer significant savings for many more years to come.”

James Lever has also appointed Clique Energy to install an EV Charger to provide a charging point for electric vehicles on site.

James Lever (pictured centre), managing director at James Lever, said: “We are excited about the cost savings this installation will bring and also to be minimising our carbon footprint, which is extremely important to us and our clients.  We would highly recommend Clique Energy to businesses that want to protect their future by minimising energy overheads and help preserve the environment for generations to come.”
