Pendle locals must bring Photo ID when voting in May local elections

Pendle residents need to show photo ID to vote in the Pendle Borough Council and Town/Parish Council elections on Thursday 4th May.

If you’re going to the polling station to vote in person or as a proxy voter on behalf of someone else, you’ll need to show photo ID before you’re given your ballot paper.

Pendle Borough Council’s Returning Officer and Chief Executive, Rose Rouse, said: “This isn’t the first time Pendle voters have had to show photo ID when voting in person.

“We took part in a pilot in 2019 which helped to shape the Voter ID scheme the Government has now introduced.

“The pilot ran very smoothly and voting at the polling stations remained quick and simple.”

Accepted forms of ID are:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence (including provisional licence)
  • Blue badge
  • Certain concessionary travel cards
  • Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
  • Biometric immigration document
  • Defence identity card
  • Certain national identity cards

Andrea Mullin, Elections and Registration Manager, said: “You can still use your photo ID if it’s out of date, as long as it looks like you.

“Don’t worry, if you don’t have photo ID you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate or a postal vote.”

You can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate online via www.pendle.gov.uk/voterID or you can request a paper copy by calling Pendle Borough Council’s Elections Team on (01282) 661662 or 661919 or emailing [email protected]

You can request a postal vote by downloading a form from www.pendle.gov.uk/postalvote or by emailing [email protected]

To vote in May you need to register to vote by midnight on Monday 17 April. It’s quick and easy to do online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

For more information about what photo ID you need to bring or about applying for a Voter Authority Certificate, visit www.pendle.gov.uk/voterID or call (01282) 661662 or 661919.
