As the recent and ongoing Covid-19 restrictions have reduced the need for travel, the roads of the UK have never been more empty. KAYS, the family-run road maintenance business based in Blackburn, has been working hard throughout lockdown in support of the North-West’s attempt to keep people safe and the country moving forward.
Headed up by commercial director Shaun Hargreaves, KAYS has not only completed typical traffic management tasks with ardour, but the business was also one of the driving members behind the well-recognised series of ‘road rainbows’ and messages of thanks to the NHS – as loved and admired across North-West localities.
While KAYS has announced exciting plans for rapid expansion, including the growth of its workforce, the traffic management business has also recently welcomed Leon, who has joined the office in September as a trainee traffic management planning technician. Aged eighteen, Leon has just completed his A-Levels, and is set to begin his formal training with KAYS this autumn.
Leon said; ‘Joining KAYS TM in September was a huge decision, despite being enrolled for a degree at university. The company provided a fantastic offer including funding for further education. Knowing the company well, seeing its growth and success over the last few years, it was obvious that the potential of the offer was clear. I hope to have a very successful career in the expanding family run company.’
In addition to a growing team, KAYS has revealed that the company is set to upgrade its fleet of vehicles, including the purchase of a new eighteen tonne traffic management impact protection vehicle, plus twenty-five new traffic management vans.
Shaun Hargreaves, commercial director of KAYS said: “We’re thrilled to reveal the announcement of our all-new and improved fleet. As a direct product of our hard work and determination throughout the pandemic, the new vehicles will allow us to continue to deliver exceptional traffic management services while keeping the public safe on the roads, and ultimately, to assist the country in moving forward.”
The thirty-five year old business has also assisted with the removal of current existing cycle lane markings in Bolton and will be re-installing new ones, with lane delineates to be positioned imminently. These changes will see safer cycling within the town for residents to move around with ease. There is the hope that safer cycle lanes will ease some of the pressures on public transport, while also providing a healthy alternative for travel during covid times.
