The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) and safety permit for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) requires operators of lorries over 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight to apply and obtain a permit to enter or operate in Greater London, or they may receive a £550 Penalty Charge Notice.
Blackburn based Insurefit Vehicle Installations works with businesses throughout the UK to provide a one stop installation service for vehicle cctv, fleet safety, security installations and conversion products, utilising a complete in-house installation service
The company has already provided the Safe System equipment for several local companies but wanted to remind everyone about the pending close deadline.
Graham Howard, Director, from Insurefit Vehicle Installations commented: “Enforcement measures will be introduced from 1st March 2021, but there is a 90-day grace period to support operators who have ordered Safe System components ahead of 1st March enforcement start date and are now waiting for the equipment to be supplied and fitted.
“The safety equipment required to be installed, by a qualified installer, includes:
» Class V and VI mirrors
» Sideguards
» Camera monitoring system
» Sensor system with driver alert
» Left-turn audible alarm
» Warning signage
“Any company’s HGV vehicles which operate or could potentially operate in London, need to ensure that this safety equipment is installed asap, otherwise they could be subject to a costly fine. If in doubt, please contact us for advice.
“With the grace period looming on the 1st March, we have seen an increase in orders for DVS related equipment installations. For example, local business, ACS Access & Maintenance, now meets the safety standards on its recently purchased specialist vehicles. They met with Insurefit to discuss and create a bespoke system to match their needs, but also meet the minimum requirements for the TfL DVS scheme.
“ACS Access & Maintenance were delighted to work with the team at Insurefit. Their fleet works nationally, providing a wide range of industries with truck mounted elevated working platforms. So, it’s essential for the company to meet the new DVS scheme requirements. The recent installation of the DVR live system on their growing fleet of the Bronto XR range, means they are now compliant with the scheme.
“So, to ensure your HGV vehicle is not stopped from operating in Greater London, please book the safety equipment installation work NOW!!”
