SPAR has lent its support to Lancaster University’s Social Football Society with a donation of bibs and footballs to enable members to have more game time.
Green and yellow SPAR branded breathable mesh bibs and 10 footballs have been handed over to the Society outside the SPAR store on the university campus.
The Society’s Committee members approached SPAR for help after a seeing a boom in students attending practice after the pandemic which meant they were struggling to facilitate training and match sessions.
The Society has just over 50 signed up members plus an additional 150 students who attend periodically, and it was set up in 2021 for those who enjoy playing football but do not wish to play competitively.
Lancaster University’s SPAR store is owned and serviced by James Hall & Co. Ltd, SPAR UK’s primary wholesaler and distributor for the North of England.
Tom Murphy, Marketing Manager at James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “Our Lancaster University store is a brilliant SPAR and we know how valued it is by students on campus which is why we were so keen to give something back to the Social Football Society.
“Two of SPAR’s brand pillars are Nurturing Our Neighbourhoods and Passionate About Local, and through this contribution to the Social Football Society, this has helped us achieve our goal in the Lancaster University community.”
Sam Torr, President of the Lancaster University Social Football Society, said: “We are very pleased with the footballs and the SPAR sponsored bibs as they look fantastic.
“We are a growing organisation, but one that has started with nothing, so we really are grateful to SPAR for the support.
“Whatever the motivation for attending our Society’s sessions, whether it be for fitness or taking time out from stressful studies, the bibs will give us distinct colours and the footballs the opportunity for more people to have a kickabout.
“We are really looking forward to our first football sessions in the new academic year now.”
