Healthcare recruiters’ princess parade for poorly children

A procession of Disney princesses and Marvel superheroes marched from Bolton to Chorley to raise as much money as they could for their local children’s hospice – Derian House.

Princesses Elsa, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Belle were joined by Spiderman and Batman on Saturday 24 September on a 14-mile from their workplace, Nurseplus Bolton, all the way to Derian House in Chorley.

So far, the healthcare recruiters have raised over £500 for the charity that cares for 450 children and their families each year.

Georgia Whittle, 25, Branch Manager at Nurseplus Bolton, said: “Nurseplus has worked very closely with Derian House for many years now – we really wanted to raise as much money as we possibly could for such a fantastic cause.

“We had such a great day. We were a bit nervous about the blisters at first, but we were just really looking forward to doing something for such an amazing charity that we pushed on.

“We had people driving past us only to drive back because they’d gone to get out cash to put in our buckets. Taxis were stopping to drop pounds in the buckets too. By the end they were so heavy we were struggling to carry them!”

Last year the healthcare recruiters walked 12 miles from Bolton Town Hall to Derian dressed as inflatable animals including a unicorn, and cow, and a koala. They had so much fun they decided to do it all over again – this time with a different theme.

Ann-Marie Fishwick, Community Fundraiser at Derian House, said: “It was fantastic to see Georgia and the gang in their princess and superhero outfits!

“Care is free for families but it costs £5.7million every year to run services at Derian House, meaning that we rely on the kindness of our supporters, like Georgia and the Bolton Nurseplus team, who go the extra mile.”
