A long-term project which will guide future regeneration in Colne, Barnoldswick and Earby over the next 10-15 years is underway.
Masterplans are being prepared to create a vision for each of the three towns and local people are being encouraged to get involved to ensure they benefit the whole community.
Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Colne, Barnoldswick and Earby have not had masterplans before so this is a unique opportunity to set out the vision for their future.
“They will focus on employment opportunities, the retail offer, leisure opportunities, and housing, healthcare and community facilities.”
During the process, OPEN – the design team employed by the Council, will look at how people travel around the towns and the wider area, how the towns feel for those walking around them and what would create a stronger economy.
It will also explore what would be a good mix of facilities for local people and visitors alike.
Alongside this, the team will look at what measures can be taken to address climate change and protect the natural environment.
The first drop-in sessions are taking place next week and more are planned in the coming months for those who want to get involved in person.
- Wednesday 19 October – outside Colne Market (Colne Town Hall if poor weather), 1pm-4.30pm
- Thursday 20 October – Earby Community Centre, 10am-12.30pm
- Thursday 20 October – Barnoldswick public square, 2pm-4pm

Councillor Ahmed added: “By having plans that clearly set out priorities for the towns, it will be easier and quicker to access funding when it becomes available in the future.
“I would urge you to get involved and have your say during the process so that each of the towns can be improved in a way which benefits all members of the community!
“The design team will explore different options for each of the towns, shaped by data and your ideas.
“Following this, they will recommend an option for each town that will best transform the town centre offer.”
