There’s been cause for celebration at an independent business in Burnley this autumn after the company reached a landmark birthday.
Family-owned Financial Affairs, which was founded in 1972 and is located on Standish Street, has now racked up 50 years of trading and is already looking towards the next set of milestones.
Specialising in Personal and Business Insurance & Personal and Corporate Financial Planning, their longest client has been working with the company since 1973 but the team’s goals are all about the future as CEO Laurence O’Connor has explained.
“We’re really proud to have hit half a century in business but we don’t want to stand still and have actually come up with a plan to hit £10 million in revenue in the next ten years to grow the company and set the foundations for the next 50.
“Our leadership team are all under 40 and we wanted to set a big goal, not really to get to the destination but to enjoy the journey. This was where a thought came from to grow to £10,000,000 in 10 years and be aspirational.
“We have a plan now to scale our business using a combination of organic growth and acquisitions. We are heavily investing in both people and technology so that we can spend more time servicing clients rather than using technology to create less touch points and bigger margins.”
Laurence then went on to explain how some of the growth initiatives the company are focusing on have made it feel like they’re starting from scratch a little bit despite having 50 years of experience under their belt.
“We have a rolling apprenticeship scheme and are just launching a graduate programme, all of which is making us feel like a 50 year start up. We wouldn’t have it any other way though and are incredibly excited for what the future holds.”
The achievement of reaching 50 years in business has been praised by Burnley Business Improvement District Project Manager Andrew Dean who hopes they’ll be around for many more years to come.
“To have been consistently delivering for their clients for 50 years is an incredible achievement and is testament to the skill and dedication of their staff both past and present.
“Independent businesses are the lifeblood of towns and communities and it is great to see Financial Affairs thriving. Here’s to their continued success in the years to come!”
