Global nuclear engineering company Assystem moves UK base to Blackburn

Assystem, the world’s third largest nuclear engineering company, listed on Euronext Paris, has moved its UK headquarters into new premises in Blackburn.

The company, which holds key contracts in nuclear new build, defence and nuclear decommissioning in the UK, has relocated to Innovation Park, Blackburn.

The move aligns with the business’s growth ambitions, that are focused supporting the increasing demand for digital maintenance products, as well as supporting the development of nuclear new build in the UK.  This is alongside their work in defence on a number of contracts with Rolls Royce and contracts within the AXIOM framework, that supports decommissioning at Sellafield.

Assystem’s UK teams are also at the forefront of the development of fusion energy through their work on the ITER project in France, the world’s largest research and development nuclear fusion project.

In Blackburn, the new lab at the site will enable Assystem to develop fully their capabilities in remote inspection and machine vision providing safer methods to obtain metric information in hazardous environments. Will Newsom who is responsible for the remote inspection technology commented: “The new Blackburn facility allows Assystem to rapidly develop its innovation in remote inspection. The on-site location of a laboratory environment will allow Assystem to seamlessly evolve its cutting-edge technology and provide its customers with innovative solutions to their crucial requirements”

Assystem in the UK has 500 staff working across six sites. 70 staff will be based at Blackburn.

David Price, Head of Business Unit at Assystem, commented: “This move to Blackburn is a positive and exciting step for Assystem in the UK, It marks the beginning of a new phase for the business, which is now focused on developing our digital offer, being at the forefront of supporting nuclear new build in the UK and continuing to deliver excellent value and service to our existing clients.  We are also pleased to retain our headquarters in Lancashire having been previously sited in Preston”.
