Preston manufacturer features in photo awards

A photograph taken at Leach Structural Steelwork in Preston has been shortlisted in a national competition celebrating the strength and diversity of the UK manufacturing sector.

Advanced technology used at the facility is the subject of an image captured by amateur photographer Niek Braam. It shows an 8-axis robotic thermal cutting machine used by Leach to produce highly complex steel structures.

Niek’s photo is shortlisted in the EEF Manufacturing Photography Competition open to young, amateur and professional photographers.

The competition theme – Celebrating Everyday Manufacturing – reflects the strength and diversity of today’s UK manufacturing sector and entrants were encouraged to capture British products, components or processes in creative or abstract ways.

The winners will be announced at a celebration event in Westminster on November 20. Prizes include a share of £5,000, a day’s training course worth up to £800, an MP guided tour of the House of Commons, and a year’s membership of The Guild of Photographers.  The winning photos will also be displayed in ministerial offices, at EEF premises across the country, at the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2018 and EEF National Manufacturing Conference & Dinner, and at some of Britain’s busiest railway stations.

Stephen Phipson CBE, CEO of EEF, said: “Manufacturing is a highly dynamic part of the economy and the perfect illustration of British ingenuity, creativity and innovation. This year’s shortlist has reached a new standard for the quality of photographs, reflecting the diversity and breadth of sectors across the UK who are at the leading edge of technology.”
