Burnley homeless charity benefits from curry night

Supporters of homelessness charity, Emmaus Burnley, turned out in force for the latest charity curry night at the award-winning Usha Restaurant.

On Monday 8 October, more than 100 diners attended Emmaus Burnley’s Charity Curry Evening at Usha Restaurant in Burnley. Attendees enjoyed a three course curry meal, a charity raffle and talks from members of the Emmaus Burnley community.

Peter Pike, supporter at Emmaus Burnley and organiser of the event, said: “Over 100 people had a great evening and lovely meal prepared by the Usha team. We raised more than £1,200 on the night that will directly support the Emmaus Burnley community. The event was a great success and I would like to give thanks to Usha Restaurant and all those who supported us.”

Guests at the charity curry evening included Right Reverend Julian Henderson, Bishop of Blackburn; Mick Cartledge, Chief Executive of Burnley Council; Burnley Council Leader, Mark Townsend; and Simon Grainge, Chief Executive of Emmaus UK.

Emmaus Burnley supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. The charity operates two social enterprises in Burnley and Accrington, providing valuable work opportunities to beneficiaries whilst generating an income to sustain the support offered.

Stephen Buchanan, Director at Emmaus Burnley, said: “These charity curry events are a great way for our supporters to meet, enjoy some tasty food and give their support whilst learning more about Emmaus Burnley. I would like to thank everyone who attended and give special thanks to the event organisers, Peter Pike and the team at Usha Restaurant.”
