Fire and security company win Apprenticeship 2017 Award

Burnley based Alert Fire and Security Ltd, are celebrating winning the Skills and Apprenticeships Award 2017 at this year Themis Awards.

The biennial Themis Inspire and Achieve Awards, is an evening of recognition for both Apprentices and local employers and is celebrated at the state-of-the-art Burnley campus.

Over the summer, judges have been examining award entrants from across Lancashire, in a bid to recognise the employer that goes above and beyond. The judges were specifically looking for a business that provides exceptional training, giving their workforce the best possible opportunities to stand out from the crowd”.

Alert Fire and Security were crowned winners of the Skills and Apprenticeships Award 2017.

Judges recognise Alerts altruistic approach to the Fire and Security industry

Alert Fire and Security provide Fire and Security systems, maintenance and training and to a wide range of businesses. From retail chains to manufacturers, care homes to offices and schools, and everything in between, Alert have surveyors and engineers working across the North of England.

The Judges specifically recognised Alerts long term commitment to the industry and creating opportunities for Apprentices, commenting “Judges acknowledged the business’s commitment to Apprenticeships and on-going staff training and felt Alert Fire and Security were taking on Apprentices for the industry as a whole, not just themselves: a very altruistic approach”.

On winning the award, Operations Manager Claire Murren proudly said “We are delighted to be recognised in this way and truly value our Apprentices”.

“We have already engaged and developed 12 Apprentices, throughout a variety of departments in the business, including Fire System Engineers, Security and Intruder Surveyors and Administrative roles”

“As a business we commit to recruiting 2 Apprentices every year. It works because we have a close working relationship with Themis and the Tutors”.

“We have an active role contributing to the curriculum and classroom based learning. This ensures Apprentices are able to transfer and apply relevant classroom based learning, to practical on-site work at Alert Fire and Security and vice-versa.”

Claire continued “We appreciate the days of employees remaining at one company for their working life are over. However, we provide our Apprentices with a clear development path through the business, so they can continue to develop and take their learning to have a positive impact on the Fire and Security industry as a whole”.

Alert’s Managing Director Trevor Shanley explained the fire and security industry is evolving at pace and Alert Fire and Security are now position for further growth.

“The last 18 months have seen us undertake our most expansive business growth review to date, and given us the focus to evolve our products and service range to implement the latest, leading technology in the industry.”

“This has led to new business opportunities, meaning we need to grow our team with a range of skills”.

“I started my career 27 years ago as an Apprentice and valued the learning and support I gained through my training.”

“My aim is to ensure Alert Fire and Security have the best team in place to support our customers and the industry develop as a whole”
