SPS (EU) Limited hosted BBC 5 Live’s Marginal Mystery Tour on Tuesday 6th June. The 5 Live Drive programme covered all topics regarding the General Election 2017 and was aired nationwide between 4-7pm.
With the Blackpool area voting resoundingly to leave in the EU Referendum, the broadcast was undertaken to find out how residents in Blackpool South were planning to vote in the General Election and the main issues that would affect their daily lives.
As a leading British manufacturer based in Blackpool, with over 300 employees on-site, SPS was the ideal business for BBC 5 Live to get the thoughts and opinions of local people. The BBC 5 Live Team broadcast live from the SPS factory, as their 5 Live branded notebooks were printed on-site. As well as SPS employees, local Blackpool-based residents and businesses were invited to join in, giving a fascinating insight into the thoughts and feelings of people in the area.
With presenter Tony Livesey hosting, the separate grouped interviews and the sometimes-heated debate was interesting and informative, showing the diverse range of concerns and issues affecting residents in the Blackpool South constituency. The broadcast covered all the key points from the political parties’ manifestos, including funding for the NHS, security concerns after recent terrorist atrocities, Brexit negotiations, and even Arts, Heritage and Culture.
