LEADING CORPORATE LAW FIRM ASSISTS IN ANGLO-FRENCH DEAL

Baines Wilson’s corporate team has advised the shareholders in electrical engineering company Meldrum Ltd on the sale of the company to global engineering firm, France’s VINCI Energies.

Meldrum – which is based in Carlisle and Seascale – provides electrical and instrumentation engineering services, including to major nuclear sites. It will now come under VINCI Energies’ industrial engineering brand Actemium UK, enabling this division to expand its activities in the UK.

Corporate Partner, Andrew Hill and Corporate Associate, Kate Parker, led on the deal with support from Stephanie Bradley and Sean Logue (Commercial Property) and Joanne Holborn and Tom Scaife (Employment).

Steven Holliday, general manager of Meldrum, added: “Selling a company is a complex process but Andrew and Kate smoothed out the process for us and did an exceptional job.”

Andrew Hill, head of Corporate at Baines Wilson, said: “We were delighted to assist Steve and the other Meldrum shareholders with this transaction and look forward to seeing the continued growth of the Meldrum business as part of the VINCI Energies Group.”

Baines Wilson’s corporate team is one of the leading corporate law firms in the North West and recommended by respected legal publications, Chambers and Legal 500. Partners Andrew Hill and John Wilson are also ranked as top corporate lawyers for SME/Owner Managed Businesses in Cumbria.

Baines Wilson have historically acted for a significant number of the leading Cumbrian businesses involved in the nuclear supply chain and have been involved in a number of sales and purchases in the sector.

The sale of Meldrum is hot on the heels of the firm acting for John and Linda Rowlands on the sale of Romar Innovate Limited, at the end of last year, to Northern Ireland’s JBS Group. Romar is one of the largest suppliers to the UK nuclear estate.

John Rowlands said: “Andrew Hill did a great job for us on the sale of the company and John Wilson and Baines Wilson played an invaluable and important role in the success and growth of Romar over the preceding 20 years or so.”

Baines Wilson has also acted for US and French businesses in relation to acquisitions in the UK nuclear market.
