Man jailed for attempted house burglaries in Chorley

A man who travelled by taxi from Yorkshire to Lancashire before attempting to break into houses in Chorley, has been jailed.

Jordan May (pictured) tried to burgle three homes in Haydock Drive, Alexander Close, and Lighthurst Lane, before stealing a car from outside a house in Chester Avenue, in the early hours of November 15, 2023.

The houses were in the same area of Chorley, with May being one of two men who tried the door handle of one of the addresses and tried to burn a door lock at two of the others.

Enquiries by Lancashire Police’s South Burglary Team found that May had called a taxi in Leeds and travelled to Blackburn. A second taxi was then booked from Blackburn to Chorley.

Later, the car which was stolen in Chorley was seen heading towards Blackburn.

May (23) of no fixed address, appeared for sentence at Leeds Crown Court this week after pleading guilty to three charges of attempted burglary and theft of a vehicle. He was jailed for 27 months.

Operation Defender is a Lancashire Police force wide campaign to crackdown on residential burglary.

It aims to locate and arrest offenders, take positive action to reduce residential burglary through crime prevention advice, and to safeguard and support victims of crime, keeping them at the heart of investigations.
