A new facility that will ensure a popular North West beauty spot is more inclusive has been completed.
Work to create a Changing Place got underway at Fairhaven Lake and Gardens, in Lytham St Anne’s, in April.
The facility, completed by a team from North West-based construction specialists Evolution, was created within the operational boathouse at the attraction and has been handed over to council officers.
The Changing Place will provide external access, an accessible toilet and specialist equipment on site to ensure no-one is excluded from being able to visit the beauty spot and to enjoy all it has to offer.
JJ Fitzgerald, managing director of Evolution, said: “We are delighted to hand this completed project over to Fylde Borough Council exactly on schedule.
“Our team is very proud to have created a facility like this which we know will make a real and tangible difference to many people who may otherwise have been excluded from visiting Fairhaven Lake.
“We hope more people than ever before can enjoy spending time outdoors in this lovely location.”
It is estimated that more than a quarter of a million people need access to a Changing Places facility to be able to get out and about.
Changing Places facilities typically offer a room with a peninsular toilet and space to maneuver as well as equipment including a height adjustable changing bench and a ceiling hoist.
Councillor Michelle Morris, said: “Everyone should have equal access to appropriate facilities so that they can enjoy attractions like Fairhaven Lake and Gardens.
“As a council we are committed to improving accessibility across the borough and this new Changing Place facility aligns perfectly with this.
“This installation will greatly benefit those who need additional support, enabling them to navigate our community with greater ease and allowing them to participate fully in day-to-day activities that so many others take for granted.”
