HAD & CO recognised as ‘most influential female-led architectural practice’

Female-led architectural practice HAD & CO based in Burnley, Blackburn, and Manchester, founded by school friends Saira Hussain and Nixie Edwards, has been honoured with the prestigious IE100 2024 Global Award being recognised as the Most Influential Female-Led Architectural Practice.

Saira Hussain, who attended Huddersfield and Northumbria Universities, and Nixie Edwards, who pursued her education at Leeds University and are both Burnley born, have shattered industry barriers and are leading a pioneering path in the male-dominated world of architecture and construction.

In a joint statement, Saira and Nixie highlighted the challenges women face in the architectural industry, emphasising the sparse representation of women in architecture and construction.

They expressed their gratitude for being recognised with the IE100 2024 Global Award, acknowledging the significance of this achievement in breaking gender norms and fostering diversity in the industry.

Saira and Nixie said: “We are profoundly honoured to receive this recognition as an influential female led practice. Through our journey, we have faced numerous obstacles, showcasing the struggles women encounter in this field. The scarcity of women in architecture and construction magnifies the significance of this recognition, portraying a beacon of hope for aspiring female professionals.”

The practice excels in various domains including architecture, planning permission, heritage work, interior design and more. This accolade further solidifies their commitment to delivering groundbreaking projects and redefining industry standards.
