A Darwen man has been jailed after biting his victim’s ear off in a horrific attack.
Steven Paterson (35) of Cavendish Street, appeared at Preston Crown Court earlier this year and pleaded guilty to Section 18 Wounding.
He was back in the dock today, where he was jailed for nine years and five months, with an extended license of five years.
Paterson (pictured) assaulted his victim so badly that his injuries – which included a collapsed lung and a bleed on the brain – left him fighting for his life.
Officers were called to Bolton Road, Darwen, at 12.35pm on October 26, 2023 to reports a man had been assaulted inside a flat.
They found an unresponsive man, who was in his fifties. He was taken to hospital for surgical interventions.
Paterson was arrested at the scene and later charged.
Tony Roberts, of Blackburn CID, said: “This was a sickening and callous attack which has left Paterson’s victim with life-threatening injuries. Nothing can justify the ferocious violence used in the attack, which included the victim losing part of his ear.
“I welcome the significant sentence handed down to Paterson which reflects the very real danger he presents to the public.”
