An arrest has been made after a police officer was struck by a stolen vehicle in a hit-and-run in Blackburn.
Officers attended New Chapel Street following reports a black Volkswagen Polo mobility car – registration PF73FJX – had been stolen some between March 26 and April 2.
As part of ongoing investigation into the car theft, an officer was carrying out enquiries in the Mill Hill area of Blackburn on Friday. Having spotted the car parked in Fred Pickering Place at 11.53am, the officer went to the front of the vehicle to speak to the driver.
The car was then deliberately driven at the officer, causing him to go onto the bonnet and then onto the ground. The Volkswagen then collided with a Seat Leon.
The officer was taken to hospital but his injuries were not serious.
Following enquiries, police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, Section 18 Assault and dangerous driving. He remains in custody.
Police are continuing to look for the stolen Volkswagen.
Anyone with footage, information about the hit and run, or sightings of the Volkswagen, should contact police on 101, quoting log 484 of April 3, 2024.
