Egg Rolling – the iconic Easter tradition spanning more than 150 years – is taking place at Avenham and Miller Parks in Preston on Easter Monday.
With a unique blend of workshops, street theatre, and live music, the event – running from 11am until 4pm – promises a memorable experience for all ages.
Egg Rolling isn’t just a tradition, it’s an invitation to join in the festivities and create lasting memories with family and friends. Participants are encouraged to bring their own eggs and join the crowd in rolling them down the hills in the official egg rolls scheduled every hour.
Cherished tradition
Councillor Peter Kelly said: “Our aim with Egg Rolling is to not only uphold a cherished tradition but also to invigorate Preston with arts, culture, and community spirit. We want to showcase the vibrancy of our city and entice visitors from near and far to partake.
“We’re thrilled to host Egg Rolling for its 157th year and provide a platform for artists, performers, and the community to come together in celebration.”
In addition to the egg-rolling festivities, attendees can look forward to a dynamic lineup of performances featuring:
- Seed: A rockabilly tree-planting anarcho-nomad takes audiences on a surprising and inspiring journey from small acorns to great oaks.
- Grow Your Own!: A delightful show filled with fruit and vegetable-themed juggling and comedy cookery, including a special appearance by Peter Rabbit himself.
- Seeing Red: A modern retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood tale, full of red-related surprises, a pinch of feminism and a mini mob of original puppet characters; all crammed into one large, furry suitcase!
Moreover, Egg Rolling offers interactive workshops such as the ever-popular Easter bonnet making and competition, food stands, meeting Plucky the Chicken and workshops with Let’s Grow Preston where participants can learn to make simple paper pots and plant seeds, contributing to local food hubs.
