The UK’s smart meter rollout experienced a substantial boost in January 2024, with a 30% month-on-month increase resulting in 221,000 installations.
This surge marks a 21% increase from January of the preceding year and represents the most significant January installation figures since the year 2020, as detailed in ElectraLink’s report.
This boost in new meter installations is viewed as an essential step towards recovery, posting the highest January figures in the four years following the pandemic’s impact on the program.
ElectraLink’s report also points to the considerable drop in installations in April 2020, when figures plummeted to 12,000 due to the stringent social distancing measures in place at the time.
Since the outset of the smart meter rollout in 2012, the total installations have reached 22.48 million, according to ElectraLink. In January, the usual frontrunners in installation activity remained strong, with East England achieving 27,000 installations, southern England with 25,000, and the East Midlands contributing 21,000.
