Harry Brook has been recognised as England’s player of the year at the 2023 Cricket Writers’ Club Awards, landing the prestigious Bob Willis Trophy.
The trophy, which recognises England’s overall male or female cricketer of the year, has been awarded to Brook following a stellar 12 months for the right-handed batsman.
Performances between October 2022 and September 2023 were taken into account in voting for the award, and Brook contributed for England across all three formats to become just the second winner of the trophy, after Jonny Bairstow in 2022.

Brook helped England win the T20 World Cup in November 2022, also scoring four centuries and seven fifties in his 11 Test matches during the judged period, featuring as part of the red-ball side which drew with Australia in this year’s home Ashes series.
The Yorkshireman then forced his way into England’s squad for the ODI World Cup – a tournament which ended in disappointment for the 2019 winners – with his performances for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
Reflecting on his achievements after scooping the prize, Brook said: “I think the T20 World Cup just tops it to be honest.

“To have won a World Cup, to have played in an Ashes series and to have experienced some of the things I have this year is a dream come true.
“It has been the most enjoyable time of my life so far. The way we’ve gone out there and tried to play our cricket has been really fun.”
Meanwhile, all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt made it back-to-back Women’s Cricketer of the Year awards after helping England draw this year’s Women’s Ashes series and starring in February’s run to the semi-finals of the T20 Women’s World Cup.
