Manleys Achieves Victory in FA Appeal for Young Footballer

Chester-based media, sports, and litigation practice Manleys has achieved yet another success, this time by winning an appeal on behalf of a young footballer who was initially sanctioned following an FA disciplinary hearing. The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with making a racist comment during a league match last season.

Manleys filed grounds of appeal, arguing that the original decision was “Wednesbury unreasonable,” indicating that no other tribunal would have reached the same conclusion based on the facts and evidence. Additionally, they contended that the player did not receive a fair hearing.

Mark Manley, the Managing Director of Manleys, represented the player during the appeal hearing. He expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “The player and his family are naturally very pleased that the appeal succeeded, and the sanction entirely lifted. The player accordingly considers himself exonerated.”

Highlighting the seriousness of the disciplinary charge and its potential reputational impact, Manley emphasised the complexities of such cases and the need to navigate the FA Handbook’s regulations carefully. The successful appeal not only cleared the player’s name but also allowed him to participate in an important Final match, which his team ultimately won, showcasing success both on and off the pitch.

Manleys has a track record of representing sportsmen and women across various sports in privacy, reputation management, contractual, and dispute resolution matters. Their expertise has led to victories in previous cases before FIFA Arbitration panels and FA Rule K cases.

The recent triumph in the FA appeal further solidifies Manleys’ reputation as a skilled and effective advocate for athletes facing legal challenges in the sports industry.
