Volunteer Call for Community Clean Up

Penwortham Business Network celebrates 1st anniversary

Residents and local groups in Penwortham are being urged to get involved with a community clean up this month. The event has been organised by the Penwortham Business Network which celebrates its first anniversary in March.

With their litter pickers and bin bags at the ready, volunteers are invited to join local businesses, schools and community organisations for the project. The team is set to meet at Galloways Society for the Blind in Howick Park Avenue at 9am on Thursday March 23rd and walk along Liverpool Road, equipment will be provided by Penwortham Town Council.

Jemma Lloyd, head of Vincents Solicitors’ Penwortham office, set up the Penwortham Business Network (PBN) with local estate agent Michael Bailey in early 2022. Their aim was to help local companies make connections with each other, to promote the ‘shop local’ agenda, and to work together to support the local community.

Jemma said: “PBN members are coming out in force to take part and we’ve some local school children coming along too. The event is open to everyone and we’d love to welcome more schools and members of the community to join us in tidying up our fantastic town.

“We set up the network to bring local businesses together to support each other and the wider Penwortham community. One of our main aims has always been to ‘give back’ and what better way to celebrate our first anniversary than by doing just that with a community clean up.”

The PBN group has welcomed more than 200 people representing local businesses to the monthly meetings over the last 12 months. Members have heard presentations from each other and guest speakers including Penwortham Town Council. New connections have been made and a significant number of business opportunities have also been shared.

Michael Bailey said: “The success of the PBN comes down to the amazing business community we have in Penwortham and the genuine desire of local people to support each other. Sharing information and opportunities has been a key part of the network, and we’re really pleased with how well this is working. But the other main part of our plan was to bring people together for the good of the town and this event is a great way to do that.

“Litter not only harms the environment but also devalues our community. Together we can make a difference and every little bit helps, whether you pick up 1 piece of litter or 100. Let’s work together to keep our community clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.”

The Penwortham Business Network meets at Galloways Society for the Blind on the first Thursday of each month at 9.15am, the next one is March 16th. Light refreshments are provided and the networking wraps up by 10.30am. Members are also invited to join the PBN Facebook Group to keep up to date with group activities and meeting information, and to post details about their company or any connections they are looking to make.

The Penwortham Community Clean Up is on Thursday March 23rd. Please register beforehand so organisers know how many people to expect, by emailing Jemma Lloyd on [email protected] or Michael Bailey on [email protected]
