Preston has the 6th lowest average annual salary in the UK, according to study

A new study has revealed the top 10 UK cities with the lowest average annual salaries and Preston features in 6th place with an average salary of £24,416, but how does this total compare to the rest of the country?

New research carried out by Utility Bidder has revealed the UK cities offering workers the highest and lowest salaries, as well as revealing the best places to work based on factors such as the cost of living index, and average working hours per week.

The research also revealed the following:

  • Preston has been named the 17th best city in the UK to work in after receiving a salary score of 5 out of 10.
  • Nottingham has been named the UK city with the lowest annual salary, averaging £22,243. This total is over £15,000 less than Guildford which has the highest average salary. 
  • Taking into consideration the cost of living index, annual pay and average working hours per week, Edinburgh has been crowned the best city to work in with a salary score of 7.86 out of 10.
  • Based on the same factors as above, Nottingham has been named the worst city to work in after being awarded a salary score of 2.62 out of 10, which is considerably less than Edinburgh.
