Free Darwin Day lecture returns to UCLan

UCLan hosts Measuring Mental Health talk on 13th February

A free talk about mental health is taking place at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

Measuring Mental Health is the title of this year’s Darwin Day public lecture, which is being given by Dr Suzi Gage on Monday 13th February.

The award-winning Dr Gage, Research Lead for Metrics in Mental Health at the Wellcome Trust, is a psychologist and epidemiologist interested in understanding the causal nature of associations between lifestyle behaviours and mental health.

She has a particular interest in the impact of recreational drug use on mental health, and has a podcast called ‘Say Why To Drugs’.

Organiser Dr Mike Eslea, Senior Lecturer in Psychology, said: “After a two-year break due to Covid, we are delighted to be back hosting the annual Darwin Day Celebration Lecture. The lecture is an important academic event as Darwin Day is a worldwide celebration of science and reason, and we have hosted 14 previous lectures by distinguished academics.”

Darwin Day is a celebration to commemorate the birthday of Charles Darwin. The day is used to highlight Darwin’s contributions to science and to promote science in general.

The free talk starts at 7pm, with arrivals from 6pm, and will take place in the 450-seater Darwin Lecture Theatre, on the Preston Campus. To reserve your spot, please register online – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/darwin-day-celebration-lecture-2023-tickets-510629605897
