NORTH WEST DIRECTOR AWARDED UNIVERSITY HONORARY FELLOWSHIP FOR COMMITMENT TO BUSINESS AND EDUCATION SECTORS

Local Business director and education sector lead, Matty Pendergast, has been awarded with an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Sunderland that kick-started his successful career in the North West’s construction and education sector.

Matty is director of development and construction consultancy Identity Consult, a business that has doubled its workforce and turnover in the past five years.

The University of Sunderland, from which Matty graduated in 1998, awarded him the title, praising his work in creating jobs and nurturing a business across the North of England; Matty recently led his team on several multimillion pound projects at five of the North West’s top universities including The University of Cumbria – where the team are project managing the £77m Citadels Project and were appointed as cost consultants on the £8m Barrow Campus Project, project management of the £250m Eastern and Central Campus Master Plan at Edge Hill University in West Lancashire, and project management on the Health Innovation Campus and Management School projects at Lancaster University – a combined total of £61m.

The brand-new Salford based arm of Identity Consult – where the latest office opened this summer – also acted as cost consultants on the Institute of Technology project at the University of Salford, and as project managers on a campus-wide refurbishment programme at the University of Manchester.

Matty was part of a group of directors that completed a management buyout of Identity Consult in 2018. He and his colleagues have since grown the business, creating 18 jobs this year alone. He is also part of a team investing in future talent, again partnering with FE institutions in the North, to offer jobs and training to apprentices.

Speaking at the ceremony Matty added: “I’m delighted to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the University which kick-started my career. A big part of this honour is the recognition both the team and I have received from what we have achieved at Identity Consult since the buyout, achieving our objective of growing our presence in the North West and beyond. I would not have been able to achieve this without being part of an exceptional team.”

“I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together – through Identity Consult and the work we’ve done as a growing SME and employer in the North – we have contributed to Sunderland, Yorkshire, Preston and Salford from our four bases, and to their wider City region’s economies through job creation and the delivery of multiple regeneration projects in the North.

“Receiving my Honorary Fellowship is certainly a career highlight that I’m very proud of.”
