Retailer to make donations from mattress sales and help colleagues to volunteer with the national homelessness charity
Bensons for Beds today (Tuesday 13 December) announced it was forming a partnership with the national homelessness charity Crisis to support people experiencing homelessness this Christmas.
The nationwide bed and mattress retailer will be providing support for Stand with Crisis through colleague fundraising and volunteering and by making donations from the sale of its Simply by Bensons mattresses.
Every year, Crisis at Christmas opens its doors to people who are facing homelessness, offering much needed warmth, healthcare, food and company to people across the UK.
Colleagues across the business will be raising money for the charity and they will wear red on 19th December to show their support for Crisis.
Bensons will give colleagues a paid day to volunteer at one of the Crisis Skylight centres up and down the country and at its London hotels – where voluntary work includes helping in the kitchens, packing hampers, making deliveries and making seasonal telephone calls to Crisis members.
On behalf of its customers, Bensons will also make a £5 donation to Crisis for every Simply by Bensons mattress it sells from 7 December.
Lara Purcell, director of marketing and innovation at Bensons for Beds, said: “We know just how important it is for people to get a good night’s sleep and that starts with having a safe place to stay and a bed to rest in.
“This winter, lots of people at the sharp end of poverty are at risk of being pushed into homelessness and we would like to do something to help. Everyone at Bensons is proud to be supporting Crisis this Christmas and the fantastic work they do to help people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.”
Richard Lee, Director of Fundraising at Crisis, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Bensons for Beds for their amazing support this Christmas. It is only because of support like this, that we are able to be here at both Christmas, and all year-round, for people experiencing homelessness up and down the country.
“The generous support ensures that we can provide warmth, companionship and support to people this Christmas and help people take their first steps out of homelessness but will also help us to get closer to our ultimate goal of ending homelessness across this country for good.”
