Accrington’s Onward Repairs gains further workplace recognition

Accrington-based Onward Repairs has received further recognition for its responsible working practices, following its best-ever year for customer satisfaction and compliments.

The in-house repairs contractor for Onward Homes, which provides responsive repairs and planned maintenance services across 6,500 homes in Lancashire, has recently been recognised for its approach to workplace safety with a national CHAS accreditation.

Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) certification is awarded to organisations that can demonstrate that their policies, processes and working practices meet all necessary industry standards, and adhere to all the government’s current legislation.

The CHAS accreditation also means that Onward Repairs will automatically qualify for some contract tenders in the future, providing more commercial opportunities for the business.

Onward Repairs employs 70 multi-disciplinary professionals from its Accrington ‘Hive’ including joiners, plumbers, plasterers, electricians, gas operatives, roofers, as well as painters & decorators. The organisation has supported 12 local apprentices over the past year, with two apprentices taking on full-time roles within the organisation.

This year has also seen the launch of new multi-skilling opportunities for Onward Repairs employees, through a unique partnership with Burnley College. By diversifying the skillsets of its operatives, Onward Repairs hopes to increase the number of repairs jobs completed in a single visit, as well as offering more diverse career opportunities for its people in the future.

Steve Russell, Head of Onward Repairs, said: “We have always considered the safety of our employees, customers and contractors as our number one priority, so it’s incredibly satisfying to have our business recognised by the UK’s leading assessor. This wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of our great team and the commitment they have shown.

“We will continue to prioritise Health and Safety as we grow the business and have recently appointed internal Champions to help us achieve that goal. By focusing on welfare and wellbeing throughout our entire operation, we aim to provide even more reassurance and confidence to our customers and partners across Lancashire.”

Following its best-ever year for customer satisfaction, Onward Repairs is continuing to grow its offering across Lancashire. If you would be interested in working for Onward Repairs now or in the future, please contact [email protected] to arrange an informal discussion.
