Planning application submitted for new homes in Preston

Following a consultation with the local community, Story Homes has submitted a hybrid planning application to bring high quality new homes to Preston.

The housebuilder is seeking full planning permission for 163 homes on the Northern Parcel, and outline planning permission for up to 120 homes on the Southern Parcel of the land at Lea Road. The proposals offer a variety of one to five-bedroom homes from the Story Collection, a range of homes with flexible, open plan living spaces.

Senior Land Manager for Story Homes in the North West, Martin Nugent, said: “Following the public consultation we have submitted a hybrid planning application to Preston City Council. The scheme has been carefully designed to reflect the aesthetics of the local area and will include an equipped play area and connected open spaces, along with a linear green corridor and attractive new street scenes using high quality materials.

“Land within the Northern Parcel has also been reserved for the forthcoming Cottam Parkway railway station, proposals for which are currently being developed by Lancashire County Council. We anticipate a decision towards the end of 2022, with a view to start on site in spring 2023 should our proposals be successful.”

This is a key site for Story Homes, with the housebuilder focussing on growth in Preston following the success of its current developments in the area, D’Urton Manor and Waterside. Martin continued:

“Our other developments in the area have proved popular with our customers and demand for our homes in Preston has been high. This site will enable us to continue to bring more of our high quality homes to Preston and help to meet local demand for housing.”

There will be benefits to the local economy during the construction phase of the new development as a result of direct and indirect employment opportunities through the sub-contractor and supply chains, as well as an increased demand for local services when the new homes are occupied.
