St Helens Hall Care Home is celebrating after its much-loved Senior Activities Co-ordinator was shortlisted for a prestigious award.
Jackie Smith is into the finals of the North West Regional Great British Care Awards 2022 for The Care Home Activities Organiser Award.
Jackie, who joined the Elephant Lane home in 2013, will be interviewed by the judges on October 5. The winner will be announced on November 12 at an awards evening in Manchester.
Jackie said: “I’m honoured to have been nominated for this award. I love my job and coming up with meaningful and fun activities for the residents. Watching them enjoy new experiences, and seeing them smile, really makes the job special for me.”
The home’s Registered Manager Amanda Clark said: “Jackie is a fantastic member of our team and loved by all the residents so this award nomination is incredibly well deserved.
“Jackie goes out of her way to find out what our residents like. She has joined gardening groups in her own time to learn how to plant and grow seeds properly as we have many residents who love gardening. She often comes in on her days off to take residents outside to water their growing plants.
“Jackie puts a smile on everyone’s face and will even dress up to make people chuckle. We’ve seen her dressed as an elf at Christmas, as a wartime nurse to commemorate VE Day and even as a chicken.
“Not only is she a fantastic activities co-ordinator, she is trained to cover care roles, senior care roles, housekeeping, laundry, kitchen and has even done a bit of maintenance during her time. We wish her the best of luck for the next stage of the competition.”
Part of The Sandstone Care Group, St Helens Hall Care Home provides a mix of luxury residential care and specialist and complex nursing care.
The home is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission. In its last report, the support being provided in the home was described as ‘caring, responsive and patient’ and ‘it was clear that the residents’ quality of life and care is at the heart of the organisation’.
