Muller Property Group submits new 70-bed care home plan for Clitheroe

Cheshire-based property company, Muller Property Group has applied for planning
permission to transform a 0.96-acre brownfield site situated in Clitheroe, Lancashire.
The proposed plans will see the demolition of the existing buildings to be replaced with
a new 70-bed residential care home.

The home will provide a much-needed care facility for people with nursing and
dementia needs. The new plans include en-suite facilities for all rooms, associated
access, car parking and landscaping and will create approximately 70 new jobs for the
area.

The site is currently occupied by a furniture showroom and its associated car park, a
warehouse, a school wear mail order business together with some empty buildings.
The site is located on Pendle Road, west of the junction to Highmoor Park.
The planned development will provide specialist care in a modern and vibrant
environment. The scheme will include facilities such as a cinema, hair and nail salon,
café/bistro, plus day spaces with varying functions for residents. All residents will
benefit from communal amenities and landscaped areas.
Colin Muller, Chief Executive of Muller Property Group, said: “The provision of
registered care accommodation for the elderly in the area around Pendle Mill is
inadequate. There is an immediate requirement for an additional 300 elderly care beds
in the area with a limited existing supply of only 170 care beds with ensuite amenities.
There is a well-documented shortfall of appropriate housing for care exceeding 200
bedspaces is also evident across the wider Pendle area.”
“The existing property is now outdated for modern use, but is a well-located and highly
sustainable site and is within easy walking distance to the town centre of Clitheroe. It
is therefore, well placed for a carehome and such a facility will serve the local
community with care facilities, serve social needs and create new jobs in the area for
local people.”
