Monks Contractors invests in fleet expansion

Lancashire waste management company Monks Contractors is investing in expanding its fleet to cope with industry demand.

The company’s fleet expansion drive has seen management invest in six new vehicles and trailers.

Monks Contractors, based in Mellor Brook, has taken receipt of two new Scania tractor units and STAS trailers this month.

They have also ordered a further four Volvo FH tractor units and four STAS trailers, which are due to join the company’s growing fleet in the next few weeks.

Since starting the business 27 years ago with a single tractor, managing director Chris Monk is proud to still be growing and adding to his fleet almost 30 years on.

He said: “We’ve picked up a number of waste management contracts with local authorities and waste companies this year, so we’re continuing to expand our fleet to manage growing demand for our services.

“The new vehicles will be serviced and maintained in our in-house workshop, where we employ a team of 12 workshop operatives to keep all of our fleet on the road 24/7.”

As well as waste management, Monks Contractors, which employs a total of 70 members of staff, also specialises in plant hire, jetting and civil contracting services.
