Lancashire building control surveyors adds senior consultant

Preston headquartered Approved Inspector, Ball & Berry, has expanded its Southern team with the appointment of a new Senior Building Control Surveyor.

Graham Hoare will predominantly focus on growing Ball & Berry’s presence in the domestic and commercial markets in the South of England. He is the next appointment to be made to Ball & Berry’s new London-headquartered team, just weeks after the firm opened its office in the capital.

A former technician and instructor in the built environment, and lecturer and assessor in bricklaying at West Kent College, Graham went on to take post as vocational manager and health & safety co-ordinator with Cfbt Education Trust. He later became a building control surveyor with Stroma Building Control – formally Greendoor Building Control and Specialist Services – specialising in domestic, logistics, hospitality, retail, sport and office.

He joins the Ball & Berry team this month, reporting to Stuart Martin, the firm’s regional director. Following the opening of its Birmingham office 14 months ago, Ball & Berry opted to launch a fourth location to continue its strategy of driving collaboration and growth between its specialist Building Control Surveyors, support staff and clients, and to deliver an increasing volume of projects in the South.

The office at Mabledon Place, Bloomsbury, is a fully refurbished, stately period building offering spacious meeting and conference rooms, and places Ball & Berry within a stone’s throw of the capital’s main transport hub of London Euston.

Graham said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Ball & Berry team as it continues its expansion. The majority of my experience comes from working in the South East of the UK, and I’ll be bringing my knowledge of this region to the fore to ensure Ball & Berry is the first-choice Approved Inspector which clients, architects, developers, contractors and more, want to work with.

“It was only after moving into further education to become a technician in the built environment when I decided to take the plunge and pursue a career in building control. It was one of those ‘now or never’ moments – I wanted to move on from education and this part of my previous life was the aspect I enjoyed most.

“Since then I’ve gained such a broad range of experience in both the domestic and commercial markets – from simple structural work through to overseeing developments more than £1million in value.

“Ball & Berry truly lives and breathes what it says about its proposition and culture; I’m already part of the family, and their values ring through every scale of project they’re appointed to. Though the company is experiencing tremendous growth, they have never lost sight of who they are, or their unique DNA.”

Stuart Martin, regional director at Ball & Berry, said: “We always knew that our presence in the South of the UK would quickly take hold, and we’ve had such an overwhelming response since opening our London office that we needed to scale up the team quickly.

“Graham is going to be a great addition; his insight of the commercial and domestic markets will unlock new potential for us, and we are very pleased to have him on board.”
