Planning permission has been granted for social housing provider Onward Homes to begin work on a new housing development in Hyndburn.
The £5,944,209 development in Great Harwood aims to bring new affordable homes to the area and has received enthusiastic support from Hyndburn Borough Council.
The development will create 40 new homes for the local area, all of which will be for affordable rent. The properties will be made up of 32 semi-detached, two end-terrace, one mid-terrace and two bungalows.
Onward, one of the largest providers of social housing in the North West, plans to break ground at the end of the month, with a view to complete work in July 2021.
The development has also benefitted from a £1,560,000 cash injection grant from Homes England and will be overseen by architect JDA.
Stephen Heverin, Growth and Regeneration Director at Onward, said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Hyndburn Council once again to transform this previously disused site into much-needed homes for affordable rent in Great Harwood.
“This latest development demonstrates our continued commitment to addressing housing need within Hyndburn and we look forward to delivering these quality homes, with further sites to follow in the future.”
Councillor Loraine Cox, Portfolio Holder for Hyndburn Council Housing and Regeneration, said: “We are delighted that Onward Homes was able to progress and secure planning consent for the Wood Street site during COVID-19 lock down, and that construction work is due to start by the end of July.
“There is a pressing need for new, high-quality affordable homes in Hyndburn and this development demonstrates the value of the Council’s long-term partnership with Onward in meeting Hyndburn’s future housing needs.”
