Blackburn College Enjoys Long-Standing Partnership with Rossendale Salon Headmasters

Blackburn College and the award-winning Headmasters Salon both continue to benefit from their long-standing partnership.

Headmasters, which has been open in Waterfoot, Rossendale for over 42 years, have worked with the College for numerous years to train up Apprentice Hairdressers.

Many of these Apprentices have continued with the salon and have successful careers, including former College student Dannielle Weldon who was recently named Rossendale Leisure Awards’ Stylist of the Year.

Headmasters is a family-run business which has been recognised with the Investors in People Silver Standard; one of only four salons and training centres to receive such recognition. They have also won Employer of the Year at the Rossendale Business Awards and a National Training Award

Headmasters Salon Manager Rebecca Moffatt said: “We have always worked with Apprentices, so I believe the links we have with Blackburn College are beneficial, valuable and work really well.

“At Headmasters, we think it’s important to value our community, whether that’s a commitment through staff retention and being environmentally friendly or helping raise money for charity.

“All of our team have been Apprentices or have done work experience with us, like Nicky who started as an Apprentice when she was 16 and has been with us almost 35 years.”

Headmasters’ multi-space salon is the first eco-friendly salon in the Rossendale Valley. For their 40th anniversary, they committed to making plastic waste reusable, hair colouring naturally derived, lighting energy saving and eco-friendly wash basins to save on water usage.

They also pride themselves on their community outreach, with a main example being their staff’s commitment to the Rossendale Lamp Post Poppy Appeal through which they raised over £15,000 for the Royal British Legion.

Latest data reveals Blackburn College is the best General FE College in Pennine Lancashire when it comes to Apprenticeship achievement rates for the 2018/19 academic year.
