Salon Success for Former Blackburn College Hairdressing Apprentice Tony

Former Blackburn College Hairdressing Apprentice Tony Cavallo is experiencing success with his own business and salon, The Dark Horse – Hair by Cavallo in Darwen.

Blackburn’s Tony, who attended Darwen Moorland High School, completed Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing at the College.

As well as running The Dark Horse for almost three years, Tony creates and teaches his own advanced cutting courses and live colour demonstrations for Neal & Wolf Luxury Hair Care. These tutorials are aimed at advancing the skills of Level 3 qualified hairdressers.

He also became an official hairdressing judge for the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competitions.

Tony, 28, said: “I initially worked my way around a few different salons to gain knowledge and experience. I enjoyed the different roles as Stylist, Senior Stylist and Manager before taking the leap to be my own boss and open my salon in October 2017.

“My vision for the salon was to have modern, high-end décor with a friendly, fun and relaxed atmosphere for my clients, but staff must always display high standards and professionalism. Over two-and-a-half years in, it couldn’t have been better! We have the best clients.

“I would like to thank Blackburn College tutors Tina Barry, Tamsin Woods and Janice Hulyer for helping me get to where I am today. Without their support I would probably have given up College mid-course and not be the hairdresser I am today. Even since finishing the course they have been there to offer advice.”

Tony added: “At College, I always enjoyed the practical side of work. I was allowed to be creative and represent Blackburn College in competitions. I believe the College gave me everything I needed to become a good hairdresser.”
