Golf day raises 10k

Proteus Facades has helped raise thousands of pounds for charity after more than 80 amateur golfers including local businessmen, football legends and a professional boxer, came together to take part in the manufacturer’s annual golf day.

Taking place at Hurlston Hall Golf & Country Club in Ormskirk on Friday 19 July, the event raised £10,000 in aid of Birchwood Centre, the Lancashire based charity working with young people to prevent homelessness and improve well-being.

Hosted by Proteus Facades, the leading designer and manufacturer of Rainscreen Cladding Systems, the day-long event began with a full round of golf in the morning. This was followed by a gala dinner during the evening which also included live entertainment and a charity raffle and auction, prizes for which were donated by local businesses.

Each one of the eighteen tees was also sponsored by a number of local companies, while the signs, banners, displays and small bags of complimentary gifts for participants were all donated by Prescot-based 3LG.

Lee Caffrey, Managing Director of Proteus Facades, commented: “We felt that as a responsible business it’s important to support grass roots organisations and give something back to our community. Birchwood is an amazing charity that does so much for young people in Lancashire. We are proud to offer our support and would like to thank everyone that helped make our second annual golf day such a huge success. £10,000 is an amazing amount and will make a real difference to Birchwood and the young people it supports.”

Chief Executive Officer at Birchwood Centre, Stella Connell, said: “The annual golf day is proof that when business and charity comes together the results can be outstanding. We are overwhelmed at the amount of money that has been raised. It will go such a long way in helping us to support vulnerable teenagers and young adults in the local community who need it most. We are always extremely grateful for the support Proteus offers and cannot thank the team and everyone that took part in this years’ event in any away enough for their generosity.”

A £5,000 hole in one competition, sponsored by Andy O’Sullivan from the Swingers Golf Society, was also in place on the 16th hole. Amateur golfer Olly Crotch secured the prize money with a striking shot and kindly donated a generous amount of his winnings back to Birchwood Centre.

Lee Caffrey added: “The hole in one competition is a highlight of the event and certainly isn’t an easy contest to win. Congratulations to Olly and a huge thank you for donating a portion of the prize money back; that is great sportsmanship at its best.”
