Tienda Digital creates app for The Ribble Rivers Trust

Preston-based Tienda Digital has created a bespoke mobile app for The Ribble Rivers Trust, showcasing the animals that can be found on the River Ribble.

Running through Yorkshire and Lancashire, the River Ribble stretches over 75 miles and flows through Settle, Clitheroe, Ribchester and Preston, before emptying into the Irish Sea near Southport.

The river also forms as an important educational facility for young people and Tienda was delighted to be approached by The Rivers Trust to create a bespoke mobile app, to be used by young people visiting the River Ribble.

The app uses physical markers that can be positioned anywhere along the river to prompt the appearance of wildlife in augmented reality. Consequently, a Kingfisher, Otter and Trout appear on the screen, when a mobile device is pointed towards the markers, all providing educational information on the wildlife and environment in and surrounding the river. The users of the app can then take photographs with the animals, making it a fun excursion for all of the family.

Daniel Fisher, Managing Director, Tienda Digital, said: “Following an initial consultation with The Rivers Trust, including visits to the river, it was clear they need an engaging educational tool that appealed to young people.

“A team of four Tienda digital specialists spent five months developing the app from scratch. This is a fantastic turnaround for an app of this depth, complexity and quality, especially since the app encourages young people to follow a predefined trail, which can be changed at any time, meaning the app will stay fresh and engaging for the audience. We are certain that it will be a very enjoyable interactive experience.”
