Kirkham Grammar host annual careers fair

On Tuesday 5 March 2019, North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce Young Chamber member, Kirkham Grammar School will be hosting its annual Careers Fair. The fair is being staged in National Careers Week (4 – 8 March 2019) which is a celebration of careers guidance aimed at bringing together students, local employers and Higher Education providers. This year the event will be held from 4PM to 7PM to enable parents to accompany their children which has been proven to improve the quality of interaction for both pupils & employers.

The event also includes a series of specialist workshops to inspire and engage all students from Year 9 through to 13 in their search for a suitable career or study direction.

The Careers Fair will have over 45 employers and HE providers attending, to provide an excellent opportunity for students to ask questions and pursue their interests.

The range of employers at the fair is diverse both in terms of sector representation as well as business size and reach, with local and national organisations in attendance. The armed forces will be supporting the school with representatives from all 3 areas; Army, RAF and Navy. Sectors represented include Healthcare with Blackpool & Victoria Hospital, Law with Harrison Drury, Nuclear Industry opportunities with Westinghouse and Finance with KPMG & Danbro, amongst many others.

The workshops will provide the students the chance to hear from employers in a diverse range of careers including Medicine, Dentistry, Law & Business.

Mr Daniel Berry, Headmaster of Kirkham Grammar School, commented:“We are delighted to welcome so many organisations into our school. The Careers Fair and workshops will provide our students with a fantastic chance to understand the huge range of opportunities available to them, broaden their horizons on the different careers prospects available and help them to develop an understanding of how to achieve them”.

Fiona Langan, Young Chamber Manager from North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Kirkham Grammar careers fair provides exactly the kind of opportunity that the Young Chamber supports with quality and meaningful interaction between the pupils and employers, to help advise and inspire them to make more informed decisions about their future career pathways”.
