CPUK wins £9m contract to build 52,500 sq ft retail space in Liverpool

A £9.1 million retail contract in Liverpool has been awarded to Lancashire-based Construction Partnership UK Ltd (CPUK).

The Lancashire building firm begins construction this month on a new 25,000 sq ft Home Bargains store in Speke Boulevard, near Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The 12 month contract is with Home Bargains’ owner TJ Morris, one of the biggest privately owned companies in the UK, with more than 500 stores employing more than 17,000 staff. It is one of the largestemployers on Merseyside.

CPUK is also building two speculative retail units on the former Rayware site – at 14,000 sq ft and 13,500 sq ft – to be let by TJ Morris separately.

The architect for the three units is Bracewell Stirling, one of Scotland’s longest established architectural practices, formed in 1925.

CPUK’s sister company, Civils and Remediation, is in charge of significant ground remediation works and the construction of ground bearing concrete slabs for each unit.

As part of the contract CPUK will carry out extensive work to four junctions along Speke Boulevard, which is the main road into Liverpool City Centre from the South.

New electricity sub stations will be built as well as roads, car parking and associated landscaping and fencing along with a garden centre area to the rear of the Home Bargain unit.

Steve Burke, managing director of CPUK, says: “The Liverpool commercial sector has seen a lot of growth recently and the confidence of TJ Morris to undertake speculative retail builds is proof of that.

“We are always pleased to be back working in Liverpool, which has become one of the North of England’s most vibrant cities.

“In turn, Speke has become a major retail and commercial centre for Merseyside and these three new retail units will add to the local economy and create new jobs.”
