Christmas shopping event raises over £1,500 for cancer charity

A ladies shopping event, sponsored by North West law firm Farleys Solicitors, has raised more the £1,500 for Preston based charity Cancer Help.

On Thursday 8th November, more than sixty women attended Preston Golf Club which hosted around a dozen boutique stalls selling gifts and treats from the latest fashion and handbags to delicious treats and fine wine for Cancer Help Does Christmas.

As well as an evening of shopping, guests were treated to a fish and chip supper. The full ticket cost went straight to Cancer Help with more donations received through raffle tickets and a pledge from stallholders to donate a percentage of their profits.

The final total has been tallied at £1,569 which will go towards Cancer Help’s annual appeal for £400,000 to continue providing vital services for cancer patients and their families in the Preston and Garstang area. These services include therapies, clinics, counselling and support groups that rely predominantly on funding through public donations.

Rachel Mallett of Cancer Help commented: “As Treasurer for the Charity it means a huge amount to us to have Farleys’ support not only for this event but for all the other events they have co supported as well. Needing to raise over £400K per annum to deliver our patient services and with less than 5% of our funding coming from the NHS, we have a lot of work each year to do to keep delivering on what is sadly an increasing service requirement.”

Antonia Love, Partner at Farleys Solicitors, added: “We are delighted to have been able to support Cancer Help once again with this ladies shopping event. This is our second year sponsoring and it is pleasing to see the event grow in size and support, year on year.

“On behalf of Farleys and CancerHelp, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event and, of course, to the stallholders who brought such wonderful products and donated prizes and profits to the cause.”
