Students Quiz Former Foreign Secretary Over International Relations

Former Foreign Secretary, the Rt Honourable Jack Straw, visited the University Centre at Blackburn College last week to share his expertise of UK Foreign Policy with students and staff.

Talking to students studying BA (Hons) Social Science, BA (Hons) History and Politics and BA (Hons) English Language and Politics, the former foreign secretary explored the relationship between theory and practice of International Relations in UK Foreign Policy.

The Rt Honourable Jack Straw’s presentation also focused on the ‘International Relations’ module that is part of the students’ degree programmes, enabling them to discover more about policy formation and the implementation of foreign policy.

Ashley Whalley, the BA (Hons) Social Science programme leader said: “The University Centre at Blackburn College offers fantastic study opportunities.

“Very few universities in the UK, if any, match our intimate guest speaker presentation sessions and the very open question and answer format that follows.

“Visits from the former Foreign Secretary and the relevance of his presentation to our students’ degree programmes clearly illustrate yet another great reason for choosing to study with us.”

The Rt Honourable Jack Straw praised the students’ subject knowledge and engagement: “I’ve lectured in plenty of places and the questions I received in this session were very well framed and from a lively and stimulating group of students.”

The University Centre at Blackburn College has had another fantastic year of success, with 9 out of 10 graduates being in work or further study within 6 months of graduating* for the 5th consecutive year.
