Local IT Company awards primary school with excellence

In a special Monday morning assembly, Oliver Alcock from Bowland visited St.James’ School in Clitheroe to present the prestigious award to congratulate the school on their excellence and devotion to making sure that all pupils at the school have access to the best IT and technology available to them to benefit and endorse their education.

The schools’ IT coordinator Mrs. Lisa Barnes said “ICT is at the core of our schools’ infrastructure, our teaching and our learning throughout all year groups and across all areas of the curriculum. We believe that IT helps to extend and enrich each child’s education, helping them to be more engaged in their learning. This is not just confined to the classroom but to all parts of the school. We aim to develop the children’s computing skills to equip them for a life in an ever-advancing technological world. Oliver’s technical support and knowledge has helped us to achieve this.”

The school uses their IT infrastructure in every lesson and promotes use of technology where possible, including the recently installed latest technology touch screen classroom displays which were installed in the school 12 months ago. Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun. Students are also able to collaborate with their own classmates through technological applications.

Bowland IT business owner Oliver Alcock said “We support various schools and businesses in the area to improve their IT systems trying our best to keep costs low and within budgets. Our main role as a support provider is to ensure that the school’s IT systems are effective and efficient so that the teachers can maintain their focus on the pupils’ lessons and education as opposed to dealing with IT issues. I personally visit numerous primary schools and businesses within Lancashire to provide IT support which is specifically tailored to each client’s individual needs.

I feel that St. James’ school holds a special unique environment for the children which I haven’t seen before in my experience throughout working in various schools. I find it very rewarding working for St. James’ School and have a good relationship with all staff
members and teachers here. We awarded this school with the ‘IT Excellence Award 2017’ because we really felt that the hard work and dedication that goes into investing and organising the IT and technology infrastructure really does play a big part in the children’s education.”
