Managing Director at Morecambe Metals, James Varley, is celebrating 15 years with the company this month.
Mr Varley is the third generation of his family to be involved in the business following his father James Varley, and his grandfather James Varley (Snr).
He originally joined the Morecambe Metals team on a full-time basis in 2002 after completing a business management course at college, and within two years was promoted to Company Director.
In 2014 Mr Varley was appointed Managing Director of Morecambe Metals, with his father becoming Chairman of the company.
Mr Varley said: “I’m really proud to have spent 15 years with the company that my father and grandfather started in 1980.
“It’s special to be able to say I’m playing a key role in growing a business that two generations of my family have been involved in before me.”
Last year was a record breaking year for Morecambe Metals, as they bought and processed over 50,000 tonnes of scrap metal, an increase of 32% on the previous year.
The company has gone from strength to strength since they entered the export market for the first time in 2007, sending processed metals to Spain. Today, Morecambe Metals export to a whole host of countries including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam and China.
Varley went on to add: “The industry has seen many changes over the last 15 years with technology, legislation, pricing and competition but with a strong and dedicated team and positive working ethos we aim to continue to invest, learn and expand.”
Mr Varley is currently in the process of investing in a 1000 tonne Leimbach Shear that will further increase the firms processing capabilities and open up new market opportunities.
